Neil Roberts has been involved with the production of TV commercials in South Africa and around the world since TV ads were introduced to South Africans in the late 1970’s. Computers weren’t invented and budgets were done on an Abacus.

He worked on film sets with some of the Directing legends of the era including Leslie Dektor, David Cornell, Ashley Lazarus, the UK’s Nicolas Roeg (Don’t Look Now, The Man who fell to Earth, Performance), Mike Hodges (Flash Gordon, the 1980 bad outfit classic), Derek Vanlint (DOP The Alien), John Alcott (DOP Barry Lyndon).

Some of those early years were spent in the Editing Room as assistant editor before returning to life on set. He worked on feature films briefly with acting greats Stockard Channing (Grease, The West Wing), David Carradine (Kill Bill) and Christopher Lee (Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit), and even Manuel the Spanish waiter of Fawlty Towers fame.

Neil returned to the land of TV’s ad toiling his way up through production with a brief stopover in camera department, as one does.

Additionally, Neil has produced TV ads, Music Video’s, Training material including animated training videos, Promotional video content for Corporate clients and schools, a TV film called De Crises Karavaan for the Netherlands, directed by multiple award winner Boris Paval Conan in 2016. He hasn’t produced anything for Quentin Tarantino although it often feels like it.

One of his recent ventures was producing a Music Video for Johnny Clegg’s new single, King of Time, directed by Jaron Clegg which won Best Music Video and a Merit Certificate in the Sci Fi category at the recent 2018 LA Film Awards.

Neil has just wrapped production on the 3rd Season of the international award winning Web Series “Chin Up!” for Director/Writer/Actress Lara Adine Lipschitz. It is now in post production. Read more here…

Currently in pre production is a multi camera live streaming realtime editing event for Gauteng Equestrian Events. Rather challenging but the tests are all going well.”
